Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Nongraphical) With Reflex to Trofile®
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time (RT) PCR, Quantitative, Reflex to Trofile®, Viral Load
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to phenotype (at additional charge) if viral load is >1000 copies/mL.
Special Instructions
Collect specimen in three lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or three PPT™ tubes. Centrifuge the specimen within six hours of collection. Transfer plasma to screw-cap polypropylene transport tubes and freeze. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
The assay quantifies HIV-1 viral load in plasma within a range of 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. It can be affected by the type of tubes used for specimen collection and storage. Green-top (heparin) tubes and 'pop-top' or 'snap-cap' tubes are not suitable as they risk false results or rejection of the sample.
