Lamb's Quarters
Use
This test is designed to detect specific IgE antibodies to Lamb's Quarters, a common allergen. The presence of these antibodies can indicate an allergic sensitization to Lamb's Quarters, which is a type of plant that can cause allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. This test aids in the diagnosis of allergic conditions related to exposure to Lamb's Quarters, providing information for patient management and treatment decisions.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube, ensuring a minimum volume of 0.2 mL serum. Attention should be paid to maintaining room temperature during storage, with a stability period of 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated. For extended storage, samples should be frozen, stable for up to 3 months, with up to three freeze/thaw cycles allowed.
Limitations
The test measures specific IgE levels against Lamb's Quarters but does not quantify the severity of the allergic reaction or its clinical symptoms. It is possible for individuals to have specific IgE antibodies without displaying clinical symptoms. False negatives or positives can occur due to various factors, including cross-reactivity with other plant allergens. The test should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic procedures. Additional confirmatory or reflex tests may be necessary for comprehensive allergy assessment.
