Allergen, Food, Lamb
Also known as: LAMB
Use
This test measures the level of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood to assess the likelihood of an allergic reaction to lamb. It helps in diagnosing food allergies and is particularly useful for patients with a known history of reaction or sensitization to lamb. The test is based on the ImmunoCAP technology, a well-established method for allergy testing, providing quantitative results that aid in the management and monitoring of food allergies.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure the accuracy of test results. Refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' for details on handling specimens for multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
Although the assay provides quantitative measurements of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, these values may not correlate directly with the severity of an allergic reaction. It is essential to interpret the results in conjunction with the patient’s clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis, and allergen results with low IgE levels may be clinically significant for specialists.
