Sheep Epithelium
Use
The Sheep Epithelium test is designed to measure specific IgE antibodies to sheep epithelia, which can help in diagnosing and managing allergic sensitizations to this allergen. The presence and level of specific IgE antibodies can indicate allergic reactions which may manifest through symptoms such as rhinitis or asthma upon exposure to the allergen.
Special Instructions
Ensure the collection of an adequate specimen of serum for accurate testing. The use of a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube is required for the specimen collection.
Limitations
This test measures specific IgE sensitization to sheep epithelium and may not confirm clinical allergy. Cross-reactivity with other related allergens can occur, and results should be interpreted in the context of clinical evaluation. False negatives might occur if IgE levels are below the detection threshold.
