Markers of Coagulation Activation (Esoterix)
Use
The Markers of Coagulation Activation (Esoterix) test is used to measure factors associated with coagulation activation. It includes D-dimer quantification, which serves as an aid in diagnosing venous thrombosis, alongside measurements of prothrombin fragment 1+2 and thrombin antithrombin complex. High levels of these markers can indicate coagulation activation, aiding in the assessment of thrombotic disorders.
Special Instructions
Plasma must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture. Separate frozen specimens should be submitted for multiple test requests to avoid delays in turnaround time.
Limitations
The D-dimer quantitative assay is not FDA approved for the exclusion of venous thrombosis. Moreover, pre-analytical conditions such as a difficult draw may spuriously increase test results, affecting the reliability of the measurements for prothrombin fragment 1+2 and thrombin antithrombin complex.
