Menorrhagia Profile
Use
The Menorrhagia Profile is designed to evaluate and diagnose underlying conditions that contribute to heavy menstrual bleeding, also known as menorrhagia. This can be crucial for women experiencing significant menstrual blood loss, which may indicate bleeding disorders or other hematological abnormalities. The test assesses several coagulation factors that are essential in the blood clotting process, enabling healthcare providers to identify potential deficiencies or dysfunctions that could explain excessive bleeding.
Special Instructions
It is important to collect samples using the specified blue-top sodium citrate tubes and to perform double centrifugation to ensure proper preparation of plasma. Healthcare providers should avoid drawing blood from arms with heparin locks or heparinized catheters to prevent sample contamination and skewed results.
Limitations
The test results should be interpreted within the context of each patient's clinical background. Factors such as inappropriate sample handling, improper blood-to-anticoagulant ratio, or contamination can impact test accuracy. Interferences from medications or other medical conditions should also be considered. Additionally, while this profile covers several key coagulation factors, it may not encompass all possible causes of menorrhagia, necessitating further testing or investigation in collaboration with a healthcare provider.

Collection Instructions
Citrated plasma samples should be collected by double centrifugation. Blood should be collected in a blue-top tube containing 3.2% buffered sodium citrate. Evacuated collection tubes must be filled to completion to ensure a proper blood to anticoagulant ratio. Mix immediately by gentle inversion at least six times. Use a discard tube with a butterfly device. Centrifuge for 10 minutes, remove 2/3 of the plasma, transfer, and recentrifuge. Transfer plasma to Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube. Freeze immediately and maintain frozen until tested.
Patient Preparation
Do not draw from an arm with a heparin lock or heparinized catheter.
Storage Instructions
Freeze.
