Pork
Use
The Pork test is designed to detect specific IgE antibodies to pork. The presence of these antibodies indicates sensitization, which may be associated with an allergic response to pork products in individuals. Testing helps in diagnosing pork allergy and determining potential allergenic triggers. The results can guide dietary modifications and patient management to avoid allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
The test uses Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® technology for detection. Ensure the patient has not consumed pork or related products before specimen collection to avoid potential cross-reactivity. This test requires serum collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube.
Limitations
The test is limited to detecting only IgE antibodies specific to pork. It does not assess allergic reactions to other foods or allergens. False negatives may occur if IgE levels are below the detection threshold or if the patient is not currently exposed to the allergen. Cross-reactivity with other meat allergens may influence test results.
