Allergen, Food, Gelatin Porcine IgE
Also known as: GEL PORC
Use
The Allergen, Food, Gelatin Porcine IgE test is used to identify allergies related to porcine gelatin. Porcine gelatin is commonly used in foods and pharmaceuticals, and can be a source of allergy for some individuals. This test measures the level of IgE antibodies specific to porcine gelatin in the patient's serum, providing crucial information for the diagnosis and management of gelatin-related allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Ensure to separate serum from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours of collection. Store and transport the specimen at room temperature, but refrigeration or freezing is also acceptable. Each specimen must be handled properly to avoid rejection due to hemolysis, icterus, or lipemia.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by Eurofins Viracor. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, highlighting limitations in regulatory approval. Additionally, this test is not performed at ARUP, so separate specimens must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered. The test results are interpreted based on a reference interval; however, all results should be correlated with the clinical presentation and patient's history.
