S-100B Protein, Serum
Use
This test is used for the measurement of the level of S-100B Protein in serum.
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference when a sample is collected from a person consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin. Patients should stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before collection. Anti-reagent antibodies in the sample may occasionally interfere with the assay despite the inclusion of specific blocking agents in the buffer.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. S-100B levels are not specific as extracerebral sources can produce increases in levels during hemorrhagic shock, circulatory arrest, or cardiopulmonary bypass. Values obtained with different methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably.
