Sjögren's Antibodies (Anti-SS-A/Anti-SS-B)
Also known as: Anti-La, Anti-Ro
Use
Aids in the diagnosis of Sjögren's syndrome (especially with vasculitis) and lupus patients with Sjögren's overlap syndrome.
Special Instructions
SS-A cannot be demonstrated by immunofluorescence due to its solubility in buffers used, but SS-B may be seen as a speckled antinuclear pattern.
Limitations
The test may have limitations in detecting SS-A by immunofluorescence techniques due to solubility issues. Also, there may be variability in the presence of antibodies with certain conditions like nephritis in ANA-positive individuals.
