SSB (La) (ENA) Antibody, IgG
Also known as: SSB
Use
SSB (La) antibody is recommended for the differential diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjogren syndrome. It is often seen in 50-60% of Sjogren syndrome cases and is very specific if it is the only extractable nuclear antigen (ENA) antibody present. Additionally, 15-25% of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and 5-10% of those with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) have this antibody.
Special Instructions
The preferred panel includes SSA 52, SSA 60, and SSB antibodies, and is used for the differential diagnosis of connective tissue diseases such as SLE, Sjogren syndrome, and mixed connective tissue disease. Transfer serum to an ARUP standard transport tube promptly after collection to ensure sample quality.
Limitations
The presence of the SSB (La) antibody alone is not conclusive for diagnosis of specific conditions and must be interpreted in the context of clinical findings and other laboratory tests. Antibody presence does not distinguish between primary and secondary Sjogren syndrome, nor can it predict disease severity or progression in SLE or PSS.
