Spotted Fever Group Antibodies, IgG and IgM
Also known as: Rickettsia rickettsii Antibodies, Rickettsia rickettsii IgG and IgM, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) Antibodies, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) IgG and IgM
Use
The test is useful in the diagnosis of spotted fever group rickettsial infections.
Special Instructions
This test is preferred for the acute or convalescent phase of disease. Acute and convalescent titers are often necessary. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Limitations
IgM results are not used for routine diagnostic testing of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever since they may lack specificity for the agent, resulting in false positives, and the IgM response may persist from past infections. This limits the use of IgM for diagnosis. As a result, the CDC does not rely on IgM results for routine diagnostic testing.
