Stool Culture, Yersinia Only
Use
Isolate and identify Yersinia enterocolitica only; susceptibility test is performed at an additional charge.
Special Instructions
Fecal specimens for different tests require different transport containers. Specimens should be portioned into separate devices of each type for each test requested before sending to the laboratory. Only a thumbnail-sized portion, about 1 to 2 grams or milliliters, of stool should be added to the C&S transport vial to avoid reducing recovery of stool pathogens.
Limitations
A single stool specimen cannot rule out bacteria as a cause of diarrhea as multiple samples may be required to increase detection probability. Specimens stored or transported improperly, such as in a grossly leaking vial, expired transport media, or not in the specified C&S vial, may be rejected. Overfilled vials or inappropriate specimen transport conditions may also lead to rejection, potentially reducing the test's effectiveness.
