Use

Measurements of direct (conjugated) bilirubin are used in the evaluation of liver function and biliary tract health. Elevated direct bilirubin may indicate hepatocellular dysfunction, cholestasis, or bile duct obstruction, and is useful in differentiating hepatic from hemolytic or pre‑hepatic causes of jaundice.
