Cell Count and Differential, Synovial Fluid
Use
This assay evaluates synovial fluid for cellular elements—specifically, total nucleated cell count and differential cell percentages such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes/macrophages, eosinophils, basophils, and synoviocytes—thus aiding in the assessment of joint disorders, including inflammatory, infectious, traumatic, and neoplastic etiologies. Interpretation of nucleated cell counts and cell differentials may assist in distinguishing non‐inflammatory vs inflammatory vs infectious processes.
