Cryoglobulin & Cryocrit, Serum
Also known as: CRYOS
Use
Used in evaluation of patients for conditions associated with cryoglobulins, including vasculitis, macroglobulinemia, and multiple myeloma, especially where symptoms are exacerbated by cold exposure.
Special Instructions
If cryoglobulin is detected, the % Cryocrit (quantitative) is also reported. Fasting recommended overnight; serum must be clear. SST tubes are not acceptable.
Limitations
Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia are unacceptable. Specimen must be collected, clotted, centrifuged, and serum separated while maintaining warm temperature conditions; inappropriate specimen handling may lead to invalid results.

Collection Instructions
Draw following an overnight fast of 8‑10 hours. Allow to clot at 37 °C for one hour, then centrifuge and separate serum from cells at room temperature.
Patient Preparation
Overnight fasting required; fasting sample preferred; serum must be CLEAR.
Storage Instructions
Store specimen at room temperature after collection.
Causes for Rejection
Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia; SST tube usage.
