Cryptococcus Antibody
Use
This test is intended to detect antibodies against Cryptococcus species (principally C. neoformans and C. gattii) and may indicate current or past infection. It is of limited diagnostic utility, particularly in immunocompromised individuals, as antibody responses may be absent or unreliable. As such, antigen testing (e.g., cryptococcal antigen) is preferred for active infection.
Special Instructions
Reference Test Name: Cryptococcus Antibody. Reference Lab Test Code: 30429. Send out Monday through Friday with the Quest courier.
Limitations
Antibody testing for Cryptococcus has low sensitivity and may yield false negatives in immunocompromised patients; cross‑reactivity with other fungi can reduce specificity. Titers may persist after infection and do not reliably indicate active disease.
