The DAT (Direct Coomb’s test) is positive if red cells have been coated in vivo with immunoglobulin, complement, or both. A positive result may indicate immune‑mediated red cell destruction such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, a transfusion reaction, or drug‑induced hemolysis.
