The double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibody detected by the Crithidia luciliae immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is clinically significant in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and approximately 20% of patients with mixed connective tissue disease. A positive screening result triggers reflex testing for titer at an additional charge.
