Treponema pallidum Antibody, IFA (CSF)
Also known as: T. pallidum Ab, CSF, FTA ABS
Use
This immunofluorescence assay (IFA), also known as the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption assay (FTA‑ABS), may aid in the diagnosis of neurosyphilis, detecting treponemal antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); it is noted that for neurosyphilis diagnosis, results should be evaluated in conjunction with clinical presentation and that the VDRL is the recommended method.
Special Instructions
Note: Although this assay may be used to detect treponemal antibody in CSF, the VDRL is the recommended method. For neurosyphilis, all serum and CSF syphilis tests should be evaluated with clinical presentation.
