17-Hydroxypregnenolone Quantitative by LC-MS/MS, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: OHPRGNLON
Use
The 17-Hydroxypregnenolone Quantitative by LC-MS/MS test is primarily used for assessing adrenal gland function and diagnosing conditions related to abnormal steroid production such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), adrenal tumors, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It measures the level of 17-hydroxypregnenolone, a precursor steroid hormone, in serum or plasma, providing valuable insights into the hormonal status of the patient across different life stages and in response to ACTH stimulation.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection, and then frozen immediately to preserve stability. The test is New York state approved, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory. Assay results may be affected by improper specimen handling, such as delayed separation from cells or incorrect storage conditions. The reference intervals may vary based on age, gender, and tanner stage, which should be considered when interpreting results.
