Allergen, Food, Gelatin Bovine IgE
Also known as: GEL BOVINE
Use
This test is used to quantitatively assess the presence of IgE antibodies specific to bovine gelatin allergens. The results aid in determining the likelihood of IgE-mediated allergic reactions to gelatin-derived products, which can manifest with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. It is especially relevant for individuals with suspected food allergies in order to guide further diagnostic evaluation and management by an allergy specialist.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters during testing to reduce variability. Ensure proper separation of serum from cells within 2 hours of collection to maintain sample integrity. Follow allergen specimen collection instructions carefully for accurate results.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE detected in the test may not correlate with the actual clinical response or with results from skin testing. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or potential anaphylaxis upon exposure. Data should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and in consultation with an allergy specialist.
