Allergen, Food, Pineapple IgG
Also known as: PNAPPL IGG
Use
The Allergen, Food, Pineapple IgG test is used to measure the levels of IgG antibodies specific to pineapple allergens in the patient's serum. It is intended to help clinicians understand a patient's sensitization to pineapple, which can be part of an assessment for food allergies or intolerances. Measurement of allergen-specific IgG is often used to evaluate non-atopic food allergies, especially in cases with delayed allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the serum is separated from cells as soon as possible, preferably within two hours of collection. Only a minimum of 0.25 mL serum is required, but 0.5 mL is preferred for testing. Use an ARUP standard transport tube for sending the specimen.
Limitations
This test measures IgG levels and may not correlate with clinical symptoms or true allergic reactions since IgG antibodies are not traditionally associated with acute allergic responses which are usually mediated by IgE antibodies. Values below 2.00 mcg/mL are considered absent or undetectable for pineapple-specific IgG.
