Pineapple
Use
The Pineapple IgE test is designed to measure the levels of specific IgE antibodies to pineapple in the serum. It helps in diagnosing allergic reactions to pineapple and assessing the severity of hypersensitivity. Elevated IgE levels specific to pineapple can confirm a pineapple allergy, which may cause symptoms such as itching, swelling, and difficulty breathing upon exposure to pineapple or related products.
Special Instructions
Ensure the sample is collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube and is adequately labeled. Store specimens at room temperature for up to 14 days or refrigerate them for the same period. Avoid more than three freeze/thaw cycles to ensure sample integrity.
Limitations
The test is specific to IgE antibodies against pineapple and may not detect other allergens or provide a comprehensive allergy profile. Negative results do not rule out other forms of pineapple sensitivity, and high IgE levels may not correspond with clinical symptoms in all cases due to the complexity of allergic responses.
