Allergen, Food, Pistachio
Also known as: PISTACHIO
Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the patient's serum, specifically targeting pistachio. It helps identify if a patient is sensitized to pistachio by providing the probability of an IgE-mediated allergic reaction. The results are given in concentration ranges that correlate with different classes of allergen-specific IgE response, from no significant detection to very high levels, which assist clinicians in interpreting potential allergic response severity.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters on the day of testing. Serum should be collected in a serum separator tube, separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection, and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentration does not always correlate with clinical reactivity, so results should be interpreted in context with the patient's clinical history and possible in vivo testing. A negative test does not rule out the possibility of an allergy or even anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be used by specialists as their clinical relevance is undetermined.
