Allergen, Tree, Mountain Cedar (Juniper) Tree
Also known as: CEDAR
Use
This test is used to assess the patient's sensitivity to the allergen from the Mountain Cedar tree (Juniper), specifically the presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies. These antibodies are indicative of an allergic response, which can vary from minor reactions to severe symptoms such as anaphylaxis. It's important for correlating laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens to confirm diagnosis or guide treatment options for allergy management.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Specimens should be prepared by separating serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. A serum separator tube should be used for collection with careful handling to ensure proper transport and storage per the guidelines specified.
Limitations
The correlation of the test results with clinical allergy or actual in vivo reactions can vary. A significant level of allergen-specific IgE does not always correlate with the degree of clinical allergy symptoms. This test may not exclude the possibility of a clinical allergy or potential anaphylactic reactions despite a negative result. Clinical relevance within certain IgE ranges (0.10-0.34 kU/L) remains undetermined and should be interpreted carefully by specialists.
