Antibiotic Level, Aztreonam
Also known as: ML AZTREO
Use
The Antibiotic Level, Aztreonam test is utilized to monitor levels of the antimicrobial drug aztreonam in a patient's serum. Appropriate monitoring helps ensure therapeutic drug levels are maintained for effective treatment. The test provides valuable information for optimizing dose adjustments and avoiding potential toxicity or subtherapeutic dosing.
Special Instructions
It is required to include the time of the last dose and a list of all antibiotics that the patient is receiving or has received in the past 48 hours for accurate results and proper laboratory handling.
Limitations
The presence of other antimicrobial agents may interfere with the bioassay and influence the concentration measurements of aztreonam in the serum. Additionally, natural physiological differences among patients and variations in the route and dosage of administration can impact antimicrobial levels measured by the assay. The trough serum concentration for aztreonam has not been well established, which could lead to challenges in interpreting these levels in clinical scenarios.
