Aspergillus Antibodies by Immunodiffusion
Also known as: ASPER PPT
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and aspergilloma by detecting Aspergillus antibodies through immunodiffusion technique. It is recommended to perform this test in parallel with complement fixation for more comprehensive serologic testing. In cases where invasive aspergillosis is suspected, alternative tests such as Aspergillus Galactomannan Antigen by EIA should be considered.
Special Instructions
The test involves using pooled mycelial-phase culture filtrates of Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus terreus. Specimens must be marked as "acute" or "convalescent".
Limitations
The test result, if negative, does not rule out Aspergillus infection. A detection of antibodies indicates a recent or previous infection, but a negative result does not exclude the possibility of the disease due to the varying immune response in individuals.
