Glypican 3 by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: GLYP3 IHC
Use
This test provides immunohistochemical staining for Glypican-3, a protein useful in differentiating hepatocellular carcinoma from other malignancies and hepatic adenomas, as it is expressed in a high proportion of hepatocellular carcinomas; the stain is provided as a technical (stain‑and‑return) service only. It aids pathologists in supporting a diagnosis based on tissue morphology.
Special Instructions
This is performed as a stain‑and‑return technical service only. Ordering recommendations refer to ARUP's Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure. The tissue should be formalin fixed and paraffin embedded (or cellblock), and either the paraffin block or a minimum of 2 unstained (3‑ to 5‑micron), positively charged slides may be sent. ARUP supply #47808 tissue transport kit is recommended but not required. Slides should not be oven baked if precut. The tissue should be protected from excessive heat. Transport at room temperature (also acceptable refrigerated), with shipping in a cooled container during summer months.
Limitations
Specimens that are submitted with non‑representative tissue type or depleted specimens are unacceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. The test does not include pathologist interpretation—it is technical only. Ambient and refrigerated specimens remain stable indefinitely.
