Hepatocyte Specific Antigen (HSA) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: HEP SA IHC
Use
The Hepatocyte Specific Antigen (HSA) by Immunohistochemistry test is used to detect the presence of hepatocyte-specific antigen in tissue samples. It is valuable in aiding the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and distinguishing it from other tumors that might mimic its appearance histologically. This test supports pathologists in differentiating liver origin from non-liver origin in tumors, providing crucial information for proper diagnosis and treatment planning.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic requests for immunohistochemistry. For those without electronic ordering capabilities, utilize the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. The test is performed as a technical service, providing a stain and return service only.
Limitations
The test is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory to ensure quality and compliance. However, it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Results should be interpreted by qualified personnel in the context of clinical and other diagnostic findings. As a stain and return service, this test does not provide interpretive data directly.
