Legionella pneumophila Antigen, Urine
Also known as: LEGAG-U
Use
This test provides retrospective evidence of a suspected Legionella pneumophila infection. It detects the antigen of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 in urine. A positive result may indicate a recent or remote infection with serogroup 1. Negative results do not rule out infection caused by other serogroups or species of Legionella.
Special Instructions
This test is approved by the New York Department of Health. Specimen collection requires random urine. The specimen should be well mixed and transferred into a standard ARUP Transport Tube. Minimum specimen volume required is 1 mL.
Limitations
A negative result does not conclusively rule out Legionnaires' Disease since other serogroups and species of Legionella may cause infection. The assay only detects antigen from serogroup 1 of Legionella pneumophila, thus it cannot detect infections caused by other serogroups or non-serogroup 1 strains.
