Lupus Anticoagulant Reflex Panel
Also known as: LUPUS RFLX
Use
The Lupus Anticoagulant Reflex Panel is used as an aid in the evaluation of unexplained prolonged partial thromboplastin time (PTT) or for patients with a significant probability of having antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). It helps identify the presence of lupus anticoagulant, which is associated with an increased risk of thrombosis. For evaluating APS, it is recommended to use this panel in conjunction with tests for Cardiolipin and Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 antibodies.
Special Instructions
If PTT-LA Ratio and dRVVT Screen Ratio are normal, no further testing is conducted. If either ratio is elevated, additional tests like Anti-Xa Qualitative Interpretation and Thrombin Time are added. Hepzyme or DOAC-Stop treatments may be applied based on further test results. Additional tests such as Neutralized Ratio and Hexagonal Phospholipid Confirmation might be included, and extra charges apply.
Limitations
Testing is optimally performed in the absence of anticoagulant medications to avoid erroneous results. Acute inflammation or high concentrations of anticoagulant medications may lead to false positives. Lupus anticoagulant testing should be conducted when patients are not acutely ill to ensure accurate results. Heterogeneous lupus anticoagulant antibodies and fluctuating antibody titers can affect test sensitivity.
