Invitae Hereditary Gastric Cancer Panel
Use
The Invitae Hereditary Gastric Cancer Panel analyzes genes associated with predisposition to stomach cancer. It provides efficient evaluation of several potential genes based on a single clinical indication, helping confirm a clinical diagnosis, predict disease prognosis, facilitate early detection of symptoms, inform family planning and genetic counseling, or promote enrollment in clinical trials. This test is designed for heritable germline mutations and is not suitable for detecting somatic mutations in tumor tissue.
Special Instructions
This test may be appropriate for individuals with a personal and/or family history of gastric cancer, particularly when there are general features suggestive of a hereditary cancer syndrome, such as cancer at a young age, multiple cancer types in one individual, or unusual cases like male breast cancer.
Limitations
The assay achieves >99% analytical sensitivity and specificity for single nucleotide variants, insertions and deletions <15bp, and exon-level deletions and duplications. Limitations include reduced sensitivity for larger insertions/deletions, inability to detect some structural rearrangements or resolve variant details like mosaicism or mapping ambiguity.
