11-Deoxycortisol
Also known as: 11-Desoxycortisol, Compound S for Metyrapone Test
Use
Evaluate hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and pituitary ACTH reserve
Special Instructions
To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
A reduced response to the metyrapone test occurs in patients with hypoadrenalism or hypopituitarism and in some patients with diseases of the hypothalamus. Patients with myxedema, some pregnant patients, and those on oral contraceptives may respond poorly. Recently administered isotopes may cause test interference, leading to rejection of the sample.
