25-Hydroxy Vitamin D (D2+D3 Fractionated), LC/MS-MS
Also known as: Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy, LC/MS-MS
Use
25-Hydroxy vitamin D is used to measure vitamin D status; it includes results for total 25-hydroxy vitamin D2 and 25-hydroxy vitamin D3. This 25-hydroxy vitamin D assay and the alternative immunoassay test (Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy [081950]) are both CDC-certified(link is external) for accuracy.1
Special Instructions
This assay, along with the alternative immunoassay test for Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy, is CDC-certified for accuracy. Serum or plasma samples should be separated from cells within 45 minutes of collection to ensure validity. Samples must be submitted in plastic transport tubes.
Limitations
The test does not diagnose vitamin D-related conditions on its own; it must be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical and diagnostic information. The test measurements provide indications of vitamin D storage levels but not the active form which may need to be assessed separately based on clinical context. Patients should be informed about the potential variance due to different testing schedules or additional confirmatory tests if required.
