Allergen Profile, Food−Legume
Use
The Allergen Profile, Food-Legume test is used to identify specific IgE antibodies to common legume allergens such as lentil, peanut, and soybean. This test helps in diagnosing allergic reactions to these legumes, which can manifest as skin rashes, respiratory issues, or gastrointestinal symptoms in sensitized individuals. Early identification of these allergens can assist healthcare providers in advising patients to avoid these foods and manage allergic reactions effectively.
Special Instructions
The test requires a serum specimen, which should be collected using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. The sample should be stored at room temperature to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
Limitations
The test specifically measures IgE antibodies against a limited set of legume allergens (lentil, peanut, and soybean). It does not account for cross-reactivity with other non-legume allergens or measure other immunoglobulin types that may contribute to allergic responses. The accuracy of the test may be affected by recent consumption of these foods or cross-reactive proteins from other sources.
