Immunoglobulin D, Quantitative
Also known as: Quantitative Immunoglobulin D
Use
Study patients for IgD myeloma and hyperimmunoglobulinemia D syndrome (HIDS)
Special Instructions
Overnight fasting is preferred, but not required before the collection of the specimen for this test. The test involves the collection of serum using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube.
Limitations
The detection and quantitation of Immunoglobulin D using this method may be affected by sample quality. Hemolyzed or very lipemic specimens, and those containing particulate matter, may be rejected. As rare myelomas such as IgD-producing types are infrequent, the clinical utility of this test might be limited to specific contexts.
