Turkey
Use
The Turkey test measures specific IgE levels for turkey allergens, which can help in the diagnosis of turkey allergy. Allergies to turkey can result in symptoms like runny nose, asthma, skin rashes, or digestive issues after consuming turkey meat. This test supports healthcare providers in identifying individuals sensitized to turkey allergens, enabling them to manage and mitigate allergic reactions effectively.
Special Instructions
Test requires serum collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Proper storage and handling are essential to maintain specimen integrity until testing. Ensure specimen volume is at least 0.2 mL. Additional time may be required for confirmatory or reflex testing, and testing schedules can vary. Turnaround time can be affected by these additional processes.
Limitations
The Turkey IgE test may not identify all individuals with allergy due to interindividual variation in antigen response. False negatives are possible when IgE antibodies aren't present in detectable levels, while false positives may occur in those sensitized but not clinically allergic. The test does not differentiate between sensitization without clinical allergy symptoms and a true clinical allergy picture. Cross-reactivity with similar proteins in other allergens may affect results.
