Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy
Also known as: 25-Hydroxycalciferol, 25-OH-D, Cholecalciferol Metabolite, Vitamin D3 Metabolite
Use
Rule out vitamin D deficiency
Special Instructions
This test is not the same as Calcitriol (1,25 di-OH Vitamin D) [081091] (vitamin D3), which must be ordered separately. Special consideration should be given to the selection of appropriate specimen type and volume for testing.
Limitations
Values of vitamin D can vary due to exposure to sunlight. The assay detects dihydroxylated metabolites, such as 24,25 and 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D, but since these metabolites' physiological concentrations are relatively low, the assay remains accurate for assessing vitamin D levels. Assay results may not be adequate if specific populations have inherently different vitamin D deficiencies than reference populations.
