Elm, American IgG4
Use
This test measures specific immunoglobulin G subclass 4 (IgG4) antibodies directed against American elm (Ulmus americana) pollen. Allergen-specific IgG4 levels are typically used in the context of assessing immune tolerance or response to allergen exposure. It may inform allergen-specific immunotherapy decisions and monitoring. IgG4 antibodies can play a role as “blocking” antibodies that inhibit allergen‑IgE interactions, potentially reducing hypersensitivity reactions.
Special Instructions
Orderable via quest as part of Allergen Specific IgG4 tests panel. It is a send‑out assay performed by reference laboratories (Quest Diagnostics).
Limitations
IgG4 detection does not establish clinical allergy; it may reflect immunotherapy response or tolerance rather than symptomatic allergy. Clinical interpretation should be done in the context of patient history and other immunologic findings.
