The HLA‑A*29 allele is strongly associated with Birdshot Retinochoroidopathy (BSCR), an autoimmune ocular disorder that can lead to severe visual impairment. Not all individuals with the allele develop the disease, and differential diagnoses should include sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, syphilis, and ocular lymphoma when clinical features are not typical.
