Cytokeratin 20 (CK 20) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: CYTO20 IHC
Use
This test provides technical immunohistochemical staining for Cytokeratin 20 (CK 20) on tissue specimens or cell blocks. CK 20 expression aids in identifying epithelial tumors in diagnostic pathology, particularly in distinguishing carcinomas of gastrointestinal origin and other tissues, although interpretation is not provided by ARUP (technical service only).
Special Instructions
Order via electronic request or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is unavailable. Submit tissue blocks or at least 5 unstained (3–5‑micron) positively charged slides (minimum 2 slides); do not oven bake precut slides. Use ARUP tissue transport kit #47808. Transport at room temperature or refrigerated; ship cooled in summer. This is a stain-and-return technical service only.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation—interpretation must be done by the ordering provider. Unacceptable: non‑representative tissue, depleted specimens, frozen specimens. Slides must not be oven baked. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Stability is indefinite at ambient or refrigerated conditions.
