Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) Panel by FISH
Also known as: FISH MDS P
Use
The Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) Panel by FISH is used in conjunction with conventional cytogenetics for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of Myelodysplastic Syndromes. This test provides insights into genetic abnormalities that may influence the clinical course and treatment decisions for patients with MDS, including detecting specific chromosomal deletions and trisomies associated with the disease.
Special Instructions
A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled at the client's request after the test has been set up, or if the specimen integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth. To order probes separately, refer to Chromosome FISH, Interphase (2002298). This test must be ordered using Oncology test request form (#43099) or through your ARUP interface. For specific specimen collection and transportation instructions for other specimen types, contact the Cytogenetics Laboratory.
Limitations
This test is intended for clinical purposes and was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. However, it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The analysis may not detect all relevant chromosomal abnormalities and should be correlated with clinical and other laboratory findings. The presence of trisomy 8 as a sole abnormality may not be definitive for MDS diagnosis without morphological criteria.
