Myogenin (Myf4) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: MYF4 IHC
Use
The Myogenin (Myf4) by Immunohistochemistry test is used to identify the expression of myogenin in tissues, which is significant in the diagnosis and differentiation of rhabdomyosarcoma from other small round cell tumors. Myogenin is a transcription factor critical for muscle differentiation, and its presence or absence can aid pathologists in determining the muscle origin of a tumor and in differentiating between myogenic and non-myogenic tumors, thus providing crucial information for patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
Special Instructions
This test is a stain and return service. Electronic request submission is preferred. If electronic submission is not available, use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form with an ARUP client number. For more technical details, contact ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
The test is limited to technical staining procedures only and does not include an interpretive pathology report, which should be completed by the client's pathologist. The effectiveness of the stain is contingent upon the quality of the specimen provided, such as proper fixation and embedding. Inadequate fixation or inappropriate specimen types can lead to suboptimal results.
