P504S (AMACR) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: P504S IHC
Use
The P504S (AMACR) by Immunohistochemistry test is used to detect the presence of P504S (AMACR) protein in tissue samples. This protein is associated with prostate cancer, and its detection is useful for pathologists in the diagnosis of prostate adenocarcinoma and distinguishing it from benign prostatic tissue. This test aids in the clinical assessment and diagnosis of prostate cancer, providing valuable information for patient management and treatment planning.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service only. Ordering for this test requires an electronic request, and in the absence of electronic ordering capability, an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) should be used along with an ARUP client number. It is crucial to protect paraffin block and slides from excessive heat and to transport them according to specified instructions.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and is performed as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) in a CLIA certified laboratory. As a technical service, it does not include pathologist interpretation, and the results are limited to the technical detection of P504S protein expression without correlation to clinical manifestations. Performance characteristics, including sensitivity and specificity, are determined internally by the laboratory.
