Use
PAX8 immunohistochemistry (IHC) assists in the identification of PAX8 protein expression in tissue samples, supporting diagnostic evaluation in entities such as thyroid, renal, and Mullerian origin tumors. As a technical stain-and-return service, this test provides nuclear staining indicating presence of PAX8 without interpretive or diagnostic commentary by a pathologist.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain-and-return (technical) service only. ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure is available for guidance. Ordering uses tissue blocks or unstained slides; see specimen instructions. New York State Department of Health approved.
Limitations
Only technical staining is provided; no interpretive evaluation is performed. Specimens that are non-representative or depleted are unacceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Slides should not be oven baked if precut. Excessive heat must be avoided. Performance limitations inherent to IHC staining (e.g., aging of sections) apply.

Tissue block or 5 unstained (3- to 5‑micron thick) positively charged slides
Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen (cells must be prepared into a cellblock). Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or slides in tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). If sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
Storage Instructions
Room temperature (also acceptable refrigerated). Ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
Specimens submitted with non‑representative tissue type. Depleted specimens. Frozen specimens.
