Pemphigus Antibody Panel, IgG
Also known as: PEMPHI PAN
Use
The Pemphigus Antibody Panel, IgG is used as the preferred serum antibody panel to assess and monitor IgG-variant pemphigus. This includes pemphigus foliaceus and pemphigus vulgaris, which present with blistering and erosive disease affecting skin and mucous membranes. The test helps in the diagnosis of these conditions by detecting antibodies against desmogleins, proteins crucial for cell adhesion in the epidermis, and correlates with disease activity and progression.
Special Instructions
Testing should be correlated with concurrent direct immunofluorescence, tissue biopsy, particularly in cutaneous, mucosal, and epithelial samples. For more comprehensive assessment of related immunobullous diseases, additional panels may be ordered concurrently such as the Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel and Pemphigus Antibodies, IgA panel.
Limitations
Negative results in this test do not rule out pemphigus or other immunobullous diseases definitively. Antibody levels can fluctuate with disease activity and treatment, and normal antibody levels may be observed in patients who are under therapeutic control. Therefore, test results should always be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic procedures.
