Trichinella Antibody, IgG
Also known as: TRICHIN AB
Use
This test is used to screen for trichinella exposure and is not diagnostic on its own. It must be correlated with supporting patient history and pathologic findings for diagnosis of trichinosis. The Trichinella IgG ELISA employs an excretory-secretory antigen to reduce nonspecific reactivity, though crossreactivity with other parasite antigens such as strongyloides, filarial, and malaria may occur.
Special Instructions
This test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory, and separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. It is important to ensure correct specimen collection and handling for accurate results.
Limitations
The assay should be considered a screening test and is not definitive for diagnosing trichinosis. Crossreactivity with other parasite antigens can occur, leading to potentially false positive results. A negative result does not rule out the presence of the disease, and diagnosis should be supported by clinical findings and other diagnostic procedures.
