Oncology FISH Analysis - MLL: 11q23
Use
Oncology FISH Analysis – MLL:11q23 is a Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) test designed to detect a common chromosomal rearrangement associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is a type of leukemia affecting mostly adults that commonly develops from undifferentiated white blood cells, originating from bone marrow and traveling into the blood stream. It may spread to other parts of the body affecting the central nervous system, liver, lymph nodes, spleen, and testicles. This rearrangement, known as the KMT2A rearrangement, is associated with a poor prognosis, found in 10% of all AML cases and 50% of infants with AML. Results must be interpreted in the context of relevant clinical and pathological data.
Special Instructions
This test is indicated for patients with clinical suspicion or confirmed diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, prognostic evaluation of anomalies in diagnosed individuals, cases where prior cytogenetic testing was inconclusive, and monitoring therapy response. Specimens should be shipped in an insulated container and must arrive at the laboratory within 48 hours post-collection for optimal analysis.
Limitations
This panel only tests for rearrangements involving the 11q23/KMT2A loci. Rearrangements with other partner chromosomes cannot be determined from this assay.
