FISH, Myeloid Lymphoid Leukemia (MLL) (11q23), Gene Rearrangement
Also known as: KM2TA 11Q23 Rearrangement, MLL
Use
This FISH test detects rearrangements involving the MLL (also known as KMT2A) gene at chromosome band 11q23, which are commonly associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Identification of MLL rearrangements has diagnostic and prognostic relevance in these hematologic malignancies.
Special Instructions
Insurance authorization is required prior to draw for outpatients; inpatients may be shipped without prior authorization. Indicate specimen source in comments, on specimen, and on batch sheet.
Limitations
MLL gene rearrangements can involve a variety of chromosomal partners; when a rearrangement is detected, additional reflex testing is required to identify the specific translocation partner.
